A sketchbook has always been one of my favourite w A sketchbook has always been one of my favourite ways to slow down and really observe a place.

Lately, that place has been the mountains.

Drawing has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a child - and later while travelling - I was always drawn to sketching what was in front of me: flowers, trees, landscapes, the quiet details of a place. It's a different practice from my paintings, but one I've never let go of.

As an abstract painter, I love the challenge of hand-eye coordination that comes with drawing from observation. It asks me to look more closely, to be fully present, and to spend time with what I'm seeing before it becomes memory.

These drawings aren't meant to be finished works. They're a way of collecting moments, asking questions, and beginning conversations that often continue later in the studio.

Every sketch is a small record of being present, and I'm looking forward to seeing how these observations begin to find their way into future paintings.

Lately, inspiration has looked a little different. Lately, inspiration has looked a little different.

I've been spending time getting to know this new landscape, taking in the mountains, lakes, changing weather, and the quiet details that make a place feel distinct. It's less about searching for ideas and more about paying attention.

Every walk has become an opportunity to observe how the light shifts across the peaks, how the colours change throughout the day, and how nature reveals itself in small, unexpected ways.

I'm still settling in, but these moments of observation are already finding their way into my sketchbook, my thinking, and, eventually, the paintings.

It's a reminder that inspiration often begins simply by looking a little more closely.

A small milestone that feels like a meaningful one A small milestone that feels like a meaningful one.

I've finally picked up my first art supplies here in Switzerland.

There's something exciting about walking into a new art store for the first time, discovering unfamiliar materials, finding old favourites, and imagining all the possibilities that come with a fresh start.

It's a simple moment, but one that makes everything feel a little more real. I'm looking forward to seeing how this new landscape finds its way into the work.

Here's to new tools, new surroundings, and new works still to come.

New surroundings have a way of shifting what you n New surroundings have a way of shifting what you notice.

I’ve been finding inspiration in smaller details here - the way light moves differently, the landscape changing with the weather, and the slower pace of observation that comes with a new place.

It’s still early, but ideas are already starting to form from these shifts.

A closer look at the act of painting. These mom A closer look at the act of painting.

These moments are often where the work feels most alive - when the brush is moving, paint is building, and the surface begins to shift into something unexpected. Up close, it’s all gesture, texture, and decision-making in real time.

I’ve always been drawn to this part of the process - where intention and instinct meet, and the painting starts to reveal itself through layers of mark making.

It’s less about arriving at an image, and more about staying with the process as it unfolds.

I wanted to share a closer look at my works on paper currently included in my portfolio there, a body of work that sits alongside my larger acrylic paintings, but offers a more immediate and intimate way of engaging with the practice.

These pieces carry the same language of mark making and atmosphere, just in a different register - often more spontaneous, layered, and responsive to material in the moment.

I’m always grateful to see this part of the work represented through the portfolio, and to have it accessible through AR&S as part of a broader collection of available pieces.

Another camera roll dump - recent fragments as thi Another camera roll dump - recent fragments as things continue to unfold here in Switzerland!

I’m still in that in-between stage of arriving and adjusting, catching my breath a little, and learning the rhythm of a new place. Days have been slower in a way that feels necessary - noticing mountain wildflowers, watching the shifting light move across the peaks, and taking in a landscape that still feels new to me.

I haven’t fully settled in yet, but I’m paying attention to that process as it happens.

More from this ongoing thread soon!

AR&S is a program that supports contemporary artists while making original artwork accessible to a wide range of spaces and collectors. I’m grateful to be part of a platform that allows the work to move beyond the studio and continue its life in different contexts.

This post offers a small preview of available pieces, alongside a broader portfolio that includes additional works from my practice.
