Free Workshop
Stepping Into Abstraction

Sat Nov 29 OR Sun Nov 30
Morning Session
Both Sessions are now Full

Please note Saturday and Sunday Stepping into Abstraction workshops are now full. I am accepting wait list names. If a spot open up or another session is added I will email that list.

Length: 2 & 1/2 hr | 10:30 am – 1:00 pm

  • Intrigued by abstraction but not sure how to take the leap? All you’ll need for this workshop is an image of a landscape that captures you. A printed photograph, postcard, or page of a magazine will all work. We will use that image as a base for exploring abstraction and you will leave with tips and tricks you can employ in your own practice.

The Fine Print:

  • All materials will be supplied.
  • Please arrive in clothing that you would feel comfortable getting paint on. Things might get messy.
  • Held in person at my East Vancouver Studio, location emailed after registration.
  • If you can no longer attend kindly let me know ASAP so I can open the spot for someone on the wait list.

Free Demo & Discussion
The Art of Seeing

Sat Nov 29 OR Sun Nov 30
Afternoon Session

Length: 2 & 1/2 hr | 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm

  • Ever wonder how to translate your inspirations, memories, and the world around you into abstract mark making?  Learn how paying close attention to our environment (built and natural) can help embed the painting with feeling, atmosphere, and suggestion. This demo and discussion will include: building layers of painted imagery, responding and working with the imagery that’s there, and going back into a piece in process. At the same time we will deepen our understanding of materials and learning to go with the flow (trust the process). There will be lots of time for questions.

Choose Your Own Adventure

I teach because I love it! Teaching allows me to combine my love of people and my passion for painting. I offer painting classes several times a year when my schedule permits. Most sessions are held in my rooftop studio in East Vancouver, and I sometimes offer them on Zoom (let’s get digital). The sessions are typically one class per week in four to six week blocks. Sometimes you’ll find me out and about giving demos and artist talks, or teaching weekend or multi-day intensives in my studio or further abroad.

Abstract Painting Classes

I teach in a variety of ways:

  • In-person classes in my studio (5 students max)
  • Online classes
  • Custom workshops and demos
  • Private and semi-private lessons
  • Art mentorship

In general, I offer three main types of classes:

  • Colouring Outside the Lines – Designed for students at the beginning of their abstract painting adventures
  • The Joy of Acrylics – For students with some abstract painting experience
  • Fall in Love with Abstraction – For more experienced abstract painters

Want to be the first to know when new courses become available? Pop me an email and I’ll add you to the teaching newsletter.

Have other ideas of how we can work together? Interested in a custom workshop? Send an email my way and let’s see what we can dream up.
